Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Redwood City public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Mobile and sidewalk vending rules
The city's first major update to vending rules since 1987 would require permits for food trucks parked over 30 minutes and all non-motorized vendors, set hours (10 p.m. in most areas, midnight downtown), and start with education before enforcement. Vendors worried about fees; neighbors raised traffic, sidewalk access, and trash concerns.
Vending and food truck rules
New city rules would retitle and update the municipal code chapters governing food trucks, vendors, peddlers and charitable sales, with new hours limits — 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. for motorized vending in most areas, midnight downtown. The ordinance returns for final adoption after this first reading.
Board of Port Commissioners appointments
The port is a major regional economic engine — one of the largest on the West Coast — handling cargo, emergency staging, and ferry planning. Three candidates for two seats pitched backgrounds in port operations, tech project management, and finance. The council's July 27 choice shapes port policy through 2030.
Economic Vitality and Elco Yards Development
The city highlighted the Elco Yards project, the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative lease, a new online permitting portal, and an economic mobility action plan to spread opportunity to all residents.
